Like our other HTPLA, Glitter Flake HTPLA can be heat treated to increase the crystallinity for higher temperature resistance than for amorphous PLA, ABS and co-polyesters like PETG! Glattler Flake HTPLA prints translucency, but becomes opaque when heat treated (or crystallized).
With a more crystalline structure, the HTPLA thermal deflection temperature (HDT) can be substantially elevated to 120 ° C (250 ° F) or higher depending on post-treatment. Heat-treated parts retain more rigidity at higher temperatures!
To improve performance, your prints should be baked in an oven until you see a change in appearance (translucent to opaque with reduced gloss). This visual change indicating improved performance! We have seen the change take place in 5-10 minutes on thin-walled rooms, but can take an hour or more. We were lucky in a convection oven of quality, at home at 110 ° C (225 ° F). The pieces become very “flexible” before becoming firmer, so leave supports on your pieces or support them and cook them on a flat, non-radiant surface (like glass, ceramic or composite).
